History Study Center is an online resource providing a vast collection of digitised primary and secondary sources for the study of history. It is suitable for a wide range of users, from high school students looking for quick and reliable facts on a historical topic, to researchers examining hard-to-find primary source texts.
History Study Center covers global history from ancient times to the present day. Contents include reference books, essays, journal articles, historical newspaper and magazine articles, maps, rare books, government documents, transcripts of historical speeches, images and video clips. Study Units offer editorially selected material on over 500 historical topics.
History Study Center provides over 40,000 documents and articles, with over 50 reference works, 3,000 images and links to 2,000 Web sites.
The contents of History Study Center are divided into five categories, which can be searched separately or together.
Quick Search allows you to enter a keyword query which can be run across one or all of the five content groups. Results will be returned when they contain all of your search terms and will be grouped by content type and sorted by relevance. To search for an exact phrase enter your search term in quotation marks e.g. "New Deal".
For more complex searching, for example to select individual journals or reference books to search in, or to exclude book reviews from journal results, you can use the Advanced Search option or the individual search screen for each content group. From these screens you can also choose to browse through the Study Units and Topic Overviews, as well as tables of contents for document sourcebooks, atlases, reference books and journals.
You can set up your own personal area to save records and searches which you want to come back to later in your research. Once you have created a profile, you can save linked citations for any of the content in History Study Center to My Archive, organise records into different folders, and email or print the citations.
