The Maps & Reference Image page includes the image title, caption where available, and a full-size map, photograph, illustration or diagram from a Maps & Reference article.
The image may appear in the form of a resizable graphic, a zoomable map or diagram, or an interactive animated map.
You need the latest version of the Flash Player plug-in to view the animated and zoomable maps and diagrams. You can download the Flash player at:
Note: no special software is needed to view resizable graphics.
In the case of resizable graphics you can select an option from the Zoom to dropdown list to enlarge or reduce the size of the image by a particular percentage.
Click on the image to enlarge it a step at a time or use the zoom control below the image.
To move around the enlarged image Hold down the left mouse key and drag the cursor or use the scroll option below the image.
Click the reset option below the image to restore it to its original size.
Link text appears in red on animated maps. You can drag the panels and keys around the map, expand or shrink them. Depending on the map currently displayed, you can either play the animation by clicking the Play animation button or use the Continue link in the text panel to view the next sequence.
Some of the more complex animated maps include a Help link below the introductory panel.
